Bishop’s Family Cycles is a bike shop specializing in cargo bikes with the objective of encouraging and assisting families to get out riding. Bishop’s aims to be a resource for families, reluctant cyclists, new commuters and those interested in replacing their cars with economical, green-energy alternatives. Bishop's has a wide assortment of family bikes and accessories to make biking with your family safe, fun, and easy. We believe that family cycling is revolutionary!
Taking its name from our youngest child, Bishop Jack, the idea for Bishop’s Family Cycles came about after the unexpected early arrival of our son, those long nights in the NICU gave us a chance to re-evaluate our plans for our family. Fast forward a few years and a global pandemic! Though it’s been challenging to navigate with three young children at home, the pandemic gave us the unexpected gift of time and the opportunity to really figure out how to turn our dream into a reality.
Transplants from central Ontario (Liz) and the U.S. (Rob), we’ve proudly called the west coast of Canada home for 18 years, the last eight of those in Victoria. We love all that this city has to offer - the sense of community, the culture, the natural beauty, and - OF COURSE! - the cycling scene. Supported by the city’s legendary bike shops, a community of cyclists has advocated for and influenced one of the best cycling networks in Canada, with great things still to come. Hailing from the outdoor adventure and cultural arts sectors, we've been towing our family around this city for 10 years now and what we've found is that it is exceedingly difficult to source good-quality cycling gear for children without having to visit a number of different stores or resorting to online shopping. With the influx of young families to the CRD, Victoria is ready for a new take on the traditional bike shop, one that is focused on the specific needs of the family and of young cyclists. Bishop's will serve all family cyclists, from the confident (like Rob!) to the cautious (me!), and will be the place to get all the important questions answered: Does this helmet actually fit this child? Will I tip over on this bike with my kids on the back? Can I cart all our extra gear around and still look cool doing it?
We are here to help and we hope to see you soon,
